Diego, was our friend and fellow balloonist.
He was a pleasure to know and work with; he was a credit to his Country and his sport.
Our hearts and prayers go out to his Family and many friends around the world.  May God rest his soul.

Aeronautic Biography:

• Born in Valladolid, Spain on January 4, 1968.  Married with three children.
• Professional and amateur balloon pilot.
• Manager and Director of Operaciones de Globoacción Aérea Comercial, L.S., company for aviation work with hot air balloons founded by him in Valladolid in 1996.
• Law studies in the universities of Valladolid and U.N.E.D.
• Chairman of the National Technical Commission on Ballooning of the Spanish Royal Aeronautical Federation.
• Secretary General and person in charge of Air Activities for the Association of Active Tourism Companies of Castilla and León ATACYL.
• Chief Director of the Spanish Association of Ballooning Pilots (AEPA).
• Organizer of the XXV Spanish Ballooning Championship held in Valladolid in September 2003.
• Founder and Secretary of the Castilian Meseta Club for Sport Ballooning in Valladolid, and member of the Club Mistral for Ballooning.
• Speaker for classes, courses and conferences on ballooning and sports adventure: University of Salamanca, University of Valladolid, Council on Education, Culture and Sports of the Government of Castilla and León, General Administration of Tourism of the Government of Castilla and León, Catalan Society of Madrid, Caja España, the Miguel de Cervantes University.
• Specialist in the use of balloons for prospecting and archeological photography.  German Archeological Institute in Madrid, Valladolid Delegation, University of Valladolid and the Polytechnic University of Madrid 1998-2000

Sports History:

• Flight time in hot air balloons: 502 hours and 33 minutes
• Sports Medal no. 204 of the International Aeronautical Federation (Lausanne, Switzerland, March 8, 2002)
• World Flight Games 2001 in Seville, Technical Coordinator for the Gas Balloons Challenge, and regatta for gas balloons in Spain held for the first time since early days of the 1900’s.
• Copilot of the Spanish team for the South Pole Millennium Expedition, in which a Spanish balloon was the first in history to fly over the South Pole and the first and only balloon to fly over both poles, January 2000.
• First Spanish and third pilot in the world to fly a hot air balloon in Antarctica, January 2000
• Co-pilot of the first Spanish balloon to fly over the geographic North Pole, International North Pole Hot Air Balloon Expedition, April 1999.
• Champion of the First Open Ballooning Regatta in Alcalá de Henares, November 2001
• Champion of the First Ballooning Regatta of Guadalajara, March 2001.
• Prize of the Municipal Chamber of Monforte, IV International Ballooning Festival of Ar Quente do Norte Alentajano, Portugul, November 2000.

• Nacido en Valladolid el 4 de enero de 1968. Casado y con tres hijos.
• Piloto profesional y deportivo de globos aerostáticos.
• Gerente y Director de Operaciones de Globoacción Aérea Comercial S.L., empresa de Trabajos Aéreos con globos fundada por el mismo en Valladolid en 1996.
• Estudios de Derecho en las Universidades de Valladolid y U.N.E.D.
• Presidente de la Comisión Técnica Nacional de Aerostación de la Real Federación Aeronáutica Española.
• Secretario General, y Responsable de Actividades Aéreas, de la Asociación de Empresas de Turismo Activo de Castilla y León ATACYL.
• Vocal Primero de la Asociación Española de Pilotos de Aerostación (AEPA).
• Organizador del XXV Campeonato de España de Aerostación celebrado en Valladolid en Septiembre de 2003.
• Fundador y Secretario del Club Mesetario de Aerostación Deportiva de Valladolid, y socio del Club Mistral de Aerostación.

• Juegos Aéreos Mundiales 2001 en Sevilla, Coordinador Técnico de la competición de globos de gas (Gas Balloons Challenge), regata de globos de gas en España por primera vez desde principios de siglo.
• Copiloto del equipo español en la South Pole Millenium Expedition, que ha conseguido que un globo español sea el primero de la Historia en sobrevolar el Polo Sur y el primero y único en contar con ambos polos, enero del 2000.
• Primer piloto español (y tercero del mundo) en volar en globo de aire caliente en la Antártida. Enero 2000.
• Copiloto del primer globo español en sobrevolar el Polo Norte geográfico, International North Pole Hot Air Balloon Expedition, abril 1999.
